tashas' story

the empty nest

this month, Tasha Button : the empty nest showcases a vast array of artworks on a theme exclusively to Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre in Hornsby, NSW.

held in a historic home that has been converted into a gallery, the setting is apt for the exhibition that tells the story of personal family emotive change. the transitions of parent to friend and guide with memories of loss, joy, and hopes for the future. Warrnambool-born Button displays her unique styles of art from painting, printmaking, drawing to sculptural forms of weaving and knotting together tree bark. words and poetry are a central part of her practice.

being inspired by many art styles from Japan, France and Australia, Button enmeshes her past generational artworks with new artworks. her cultural upbringing and natural bushland of the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park are encased into the empty nest historical tale that brings emotions to the viewer. the memories of childhood towards adulthood and all that encompasses a life is explored in this shift of roles that Button has experienced in past years.

empty chairs, empty rooms, empty nests and weaving of lives are explored through Tasha Button: the empty nest, the artist’s first solo exhibition in Australia.
